There are several parasites in cats and dogs that have the potential to affect household pets living on the Central Coast of NSW that we routinely protect against.
Parasites we should routinely protect against are:
Ticks- paralysis tick, bush tick and brown dog tick
Fleas
Intestinal worms
Heartworm
While they are a threat 365 days of the year, as we head into the warmer months some, especially paralysis ticks, peak therefore it’s extremely important your pet is not left unprotected- EVER! There is not one form of product on the market that we can definitively say will provide 100% protection against these nasty little creatures however they may reduce the effect should your pet come into contact with any.
Even when your pet is receiving paralysis tick prevention ALWAYS tick search your pet daily, remove any ticks found on your pet and monitor for signs of tick paralysis.
If any signs are present take you pet to the vet asap. For more information on tick paralysis click here.
There are a large number of products on the market that assist in protection and/or treatment of the parasites mentioned above, understandably as a pet owner, it can be very confusing as to which product is the best for your pet.
As a general rule use ONLY veterinary approved products– these products are scientifically proven to help protect your pet. For animals with an existing medical condition or currently on medication- please check with your vet before giving any of the products mentioned below.
