Dogs are very social animals. This is why off leash dog areas are an important part of our doggy community. They love to play and interact with other dogs, whilst running out their excess energy, with the added benefit of a controlled environment. It makes them happier, less destructive from boredom and reduces social aggression. Allowing dogs to meet in a neutral territory allows dogs to be less protective of their own territory. It also benefits us as pet owners to socialise and meet new people.
Here are some of our favourite areas:
Lakes Beach at Budgewoi (500metres north of the surf club) – A beautiful beach to take your dogs for a beach outing – then afterwards next to the surf club is a dog friendly cafe for a refreshment or some lunch! water bowls are provided for
Tuggerah ‘off leash fenced dog park’ at second avenue, they also have a Facebook page where people arrange Play Dates with other dog owners :) afterwards you can head over to the ‘Cranky Flea Dog Cafe” at the RSPCA Care Centre at Tuggerah Supa Centre.
North Shelley Beach: adjacent to the golf course is a lovely beach to run your dog off the lead – then you could head over to the Muncha’s Cafe with your pooch as they are dog friendly :)
Terrigal area: (north of Pacific Street towards Wamberal) is off leash also – and along the way you could pop into the Lotus Cafe – they have outside areas which are dog friendly where you can have lunch or refreshments :)
There are many other great off leash dog execise areas around the Central Coast.
Here are the links to all the areas within Wyong and Gosford shires:

Always remember to take a plastic bag to collect any poo while visiting these areas. Fines can be enforced by the local council Rangers. It is important to have your dogs vaccinations up to date as contagious and nasty viruses can live in the ground for long periods. Viruses can be contracted from contact with other dogs and via sniffing the earth.
Dogs which have lots of exercise are happier as they have enrichment in their lives therefore less barking and destruction when left alone at home.
Happy dog = Happy owners.
